Three Tips to Keep Your Skin Facial-Fresh

June 19th, 2014 • Posted by Texas Ayurvedic Wellness Center and Holistic Spa • Permalink

After a facial your skin feels great, right? Want to keep that fresh feeling in between facials? Look no further. We've got some great tips to keep your skin feeling rejuvenated.

Keep up the skin care routine

In between appointments, be sure to wash and moisturize your face at least once a day. Some people have a more aggressive skincare routine, but a basic cleanser and facial lotion will do the trick for most people. Keeping the dirt and oil off your face and out of your pores will keep your skin soft and supple.

Use sunblock

You've probably heard this tip before, but it's worth repeating. Sun damage ages your face faster. No sense in looking older then you are, right ladies? You can’t control aging that occurs over time, but you can control sun-induced aging. There are special facial sunscreens that prevent breakouts too, so there is no reason to skip the sunblock.

Live happy

A happy, healthy lifestyle is best for your skin. Take steps to manage your stress level, which will also help avoid breakouts and other skin irritations. Take care of your body by eating right and exercising.

By following these easy steps you’ll notice a significant difference in your skin. Lastly, be sure to schedule your next facial appointment to keep your face in its naturally beautiful state.

3 Things to Consider Before Booking a Destination Wedding

June 3rd, 2014 • Posted by Texas Ayurvedic Wellness Center and Holistic Spa • Permalink

Destination weddings are all the rage right now. They offer the perfect combination of adventure and romance. Whether you'd like to say your vows barefoot on a beach or while overlooking a mountain range, you'll want to take a few things into consideration before booking the accommodations. Take a look at the top three things you should investigate before moving forward with a destination wedding:

The cost

We don't want to burst your wedding bubble, but destination weddings are costly for you and your guests. Compare your destination costs to a few local options and weigh the pros and cons before writing any checks.

Plan ahead

All weddings require a ton of planning, but when it comes to a destination wedding you want to allow extra time for your guests to save a little money, take time off and make arrangements needed to take part in your special day. A destination wedding tends to limit your guest list, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. Remember, fewer people are willing to commit to a wedding that's out of town.

To honeymoon or not

For more couples the destination wedding doubles as their honeymoon. If that's the case, you'll probably be spending your honeymoon with friends and family around. If you want a quiet honeymoon, this might not be your best option.

Please remember that we are here to ease the, sometimes stressful, wedding decisions with a relaxing massage. Call us at to schedule your appointment today.

Sports Injuries are Helped with Massage

May 16th, 2014 • Posted by Texas Ayurvedic Wellness Center and Holistic Spa • Permalink

Competitive sports are intense and minor injuries are a common occurrence. Safe Kids USA estimates that about 3.5 million children a year, aged 14 and under, suffer from some type of sports injury. However, children aren't the only ones that experience sports strains. Although professional athletes often have aches and pains associated with pushing their bodies to the limit, sports injuries can also occur when a 40-something who hasn't played basketball since high school decides to play an intense game and strains a muscle. Sports injuries hit all ages and all levels of fitness.

Benefits of Massage in Treating and Preventing Injuries

Massage therapy helps relieve these minor injuries as well as ordinary aches and pains. There are numerous benefits to massage therapy to treat sports stress, including easing sore muscles so you can tell just how bad the injury truly is and discover if you need to seek further treatment or simply rest a strained muscle.

Promising Research Results

In a February, 2012 issue of Science Translational Medicine, results from a Department of Kinesiology McMaster University study of athletes looked inside the muscle to find out what happens during a massage.

The results showed that the muscle senses when it is being stretched and helps reduce the "inflammatory response." This means that in addition to helping the injured muscles feel better, a deep tissue massage may even help a muscle begin to heal. In particular, massage may benefit injuries like back strains.

Get Flexible

Sports massages have been used in the past for more than just easing aches and pains. Athletes use different types of massages to help increase flexibility as well and may even get a massage before a workout or a big game. Increasing flexibility may prevent injuries caused when unused muscles are put to extreme use.

Other Benefits of Massage

In addition to the obvious benefits of massages, the McMaster University study showed that the steady pressure from a professional massage can improve circulation, blood pressure, heart rate and levels of cortisol.
